JKR Sarawak personnel visit to Kuching Water Board (KWB) treatment plant at Batu Kitang

9th July 2012

Twelve staff members including trainees from the Electrical, Water Supply and Corporate Communication branch of JKR Sarawak Headquarters paid an educational visit to Kuching Water Board Treatment Plant at Batu Kitang on the morning of 9th July 2012.

The main focus of the visit was to learn about their Variable Speed Drive (VSD) water pump system which is an apparatus designed to cope with irregular flow of water.

The advantage of VSD pump is that when the demand of water increases, the pumps would ramp up to meet the demand and when the demand decreases, the pumps would ramp down. The three main benefits of this kind of pumps is that they can do the pumping job more efficiently, they keep the pressure in the pipes constant, and they reduce energy consumption.

On hand to meet the visitors were KWB General Manager Mr.Mohammad Sabari who, during a refreshment break, also gave a briefing on the some of the undertakings as well the near future plans of the water board in meeting water demands in Sarawak.
